I’m Jeanie Aird, a fully independent musician based in Texas, USA. I’m committed to making honest music that tells an important story, told and created by people who simply care and love to do it.

I have been involved in music all my life, and have been obsessed with singing for as long as I can remember. Choir and a cappella groups were my favorite way to spend any spare time I had throughout many years of school, and were where some of my best friends and memories in the world were made. Writing was also always a huge part of my life and I was always an English class nerd, although I decided to go into mechanical engineering (hence the album title…). I first picked up the guitar and took lessons at 12 years old. From then, the guitar became my favorite way to compose songs and create. I have been songwriting since I was a teenager, and I am so excited to finally create something that I want so badly to share with the world: my album, 3rd Law!

My debut folk album, 3rd Law, is my favorite thing I have ever created, and I hope that you, my listener, will find your own way to connect with and understand it. In the spirit of folk stories passed down over generations, 3rd Law tells its own generational folk story. The album is set in South Texas where the story unfolded, and where I grew up. In the concept album, I introduce listeners to the world of 3rd Law, go back to my hometown to write some folk songs, tell a story (within a story…), and capture the sun. Nearly every video or image associated with this album release was shot in my beautiful and unique hometown of Corpus Christi, TX, where our story takes place. I meticulously chose every word of the 8 songs on this album. It truly was an object of obsession for me for nearly a year. Every day, I came home from my job as a professor (shout out to my former students at UT Dallas) and fleshed out the songs that would later become the 8 that are on 3rd Law. 3rd Law layers South Texan folklore-inspired lyrics on top of lively electric guitar riffs and meshes (played by Josiah, an incredible guitarist), showcases the dark sound from a 40+ year old Alvarez Yairi dreadnought acoustic guitar with very dead strings, evokes the soft strength of the cello and piercing confidence of the trumpet, and dots the sonic waves with the haunting sounds of the E-Bow, vibraphone, and felt piano. Each instrument tells its own story within the album, and each instrument has a purpose and a point. Josiah and I spent long nights in North Texas producing 3rd Law, and every choice we made was in service of the central story: for every action, there is an equal yet opposite reaction. Although sometimes we may be covered in tar and dust, there is room, yet, to capture the sun.

Music, along with poetry, is one of my favorite forms of expression. In writing 3rd Law, I gained closure around many aspects of my life and truly met myself on the other side. Music is all about connection, and I hope to connect with many of you over the coming months. Thank you for being here, for your support, and for capturing the sun with me.
